Listening For A Lifetime
Selecting fine audio equipment such as the unit you ve just purchased is only the start of
your musical enjoyment. Now it s time to consider how you can maximize the fun and
excitement your equipment offers. VocoPro and the Electronic Industries Association s
Consumer Electronics Group want you to get the most out of your equipment by playing it
at a safe level. One that lets the sound come through loud and clear without annoying
blaring or distortion and, most importantly, without affecting your sensitive hearing.
Sound can be deceiving. Over time your hearing “comfort level” adapts to a higher volume
of sound. So what sounds “normal” can actually be loud and harmful to your hearing. Guard
against this by setting your equipment at a safe level BEFORE your hearing adapts.
To establish a safe level:
• Start your volume control at a low setting.
• Slowly increase the sound until you can hear it comfortably and clearly, and without
distortion.
Once you have established a comfortable sound level:
• Set the dial and leave it there.
• Pay attention to the different levels in various recordings.
Taking a minute to do this now will help to prevent hearing damage or loss in the future.
After all, we want you listening for a lifetime.
Used wisely, your new sound equipment will provide a lifetime of fun and enjoyment. Since
hearing damage from loud noise is often undetectable until it is too late, this manufacturer
and the Electronic Industries Association s Consumer Electronics Group recommend you
avoid prolonged exposure to excessive noise. This list of sound levels is included for your
protection.

Getting Connected
Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the VocoPro PIANO-5 Home Theatre/Vocal Speakers. You have just purchased
one of the best domestic hi-fi speaker systems available and we hope you will enjoy the music they reproduce
for many years to come. The following notes are designed to assist you in observing a greater degree of
musical satisfaction from the PIANO-5. Before connecting your speakers, we suggest that you read this
leaflet carefully.
Amplifier capacity/power handling
The PIANO-5 system will operate satisfactorily with any good amplifier designed for use with an 4-8 ohms
impendance load. Although VocoPro speakers are designed to handle high power loadings, you must
remember that excessive use of volume, tone controls and graphic equalizers is likely to cause damage to
the drive-units. Be carefull especially with small amplifiers constantly driven on high power levels as these
may be liable to go into “clipping mode” and distort the signal causing possible damage. If you hear distorted
signal through the speakers you must reduce the power level.
Connecting to your amplifier
We strongly recommend the use of high quality speaker cables. Color coded cables are recommended to
ensure proper polarity. Your local dealer should be able to advise you on this point. Always switch OFF your
amplifier before making any connections or adjustments to the system. Connect the right-hand channel
“bare wire” cable or individual (separated) banana plugs so that the positive (RED) terminal of your speaker
is connected to the positive (RED) on your amplifier, and the negative (BLACK) terminal of your speaker is
connected to the negative (BLACK) terminal on your amplifier (see diagram 1&2). Repeat the instructions
for all channels. DO NOT connect more than one speaker to one terminal on your amplifier.

Phasing
Providing that you have followed the connecting instructions correctly, the PIANO-5 should be in phase and
provide solid stereo images. If, however, you have any doubt as to the phasing of the speakers, try reversing
the connections (RED & BLACK) to ONE of the speakers, and play a recording which has plenty of deep bass
operating both speakers. If possible, switch the stereo amplifier to “MONO” for the test. The correct polarity
is indicated by firm, full bass. When incorrect, the bass will be noticeably much weaker.
Service
No routine attention is required to the working parts of the speakers and being very reliable, VocoPro
speakers rarely require service. Any service problems should in the first instance be referred to your
dealer.

General Setup
Set up of your speaker System
for your Home Theatre
A surround sound system, as a minimum, requires 5
speakers. It is important to position them carefully. We
recommend that you work with the arrangement of the
speakers in your system to suit your preferences. Perhaps
our suggested placement may not suit the way in which
your room is arranged
Front and Center speakers
The center speaker is placed either below or above your
TV, but not directly touching it.
The front speakers can be placed on each side of your
TV. We recommend that they are placed at a suitable
distance from your TV, resulting in optimum sound
exposure.
Please note that some front speakers are not magnetically
shielded and can cause damage to the TV picture, if positioned
too close to your TV set
The rear speakers are placed behind or next to your
listening position. They give a total sound experience,
which is distributed across the whole surround arrange-
ment
